Sunday saw a welcome return to Newport Jazz Club of vocalist Louise Parker. Heavy mainland traffic meant a missed ferry and a delayed arrival but her trio of Matt Carter on piano, Joe Lees on bass and Jon Wills on drums held the musical fort with an impromptu instrumental set opening with a splendid rendition of "On Green Dolphin Street".

Making a swift transition from car to stage Louise went on to give a strong and emotive performance opening with Cole Porter's "Night and day" before delving into the Sarah Vaughn songbook and fulfilling an audience request with a soulful rendition of Gershwin's "I loves you Porky". Closing with a "One Note Samba" the audience reaction was such that Louise was called back for "The Music is the Magic" as a well-received encore.
