Chris Ingham - Tribute to Dudley Moore

17th March 2019

Sunday afternoon saw the packed house for Newport Jazz Club's "Tribute to Dudley Moore" transported back to the 1960's when The Chris Ingham Quartet gave a masterclass performance covering the jazz career of Dudley Moore.

Although remembered primarily for his partnership with Peter Cook and his subsequent Hollywood acting career many people forget that he was an extremely talented pianist and that he released several critically acclaimed jazz albums under the name of the "Dudley Moore Trio".

Pianist Chris Ingham has long been an admirer of the work of "Dud" and the tribute was a warm and affectionate look back at his career with many anecdotes putting the musical numbers into their historical context.

Opening with "Duddly Dell", the B side to Dud's first single the audience were next treated to the theme from "Not Only... but Also" before a musical journey that included "Bedazzled" and "30 is a Dangerous Age" both from the films of the same name as well as "Waltz for Suzy" written for ex wife Suzy Kendall before, all too soon, the concert came to a rousing finale with the very familiar "Goodbye".

Chris was supported by Paul Higgs on trumpet, George Double on drums and Marianne Windham on bass.
