Liz Fletcher

17th Febuary 2019

Sunday saw the audience at Newport Jazz Club enjoy a masterclass in the art of vocal delivery as golden voiced songstress Liz Fletcher wowed the audience with her 17 number set.

Opening with "Blue Moon" by Rodgers and Hart Liz led the audience through a varied selection of numbers ranging from her take on "House of the Rising Sun" which incidentally has it's origins in English folk music, through Burt Bacharach's "Alfie", Ray Charles's "Georgia" and "Tea for Two" from the musical No, No Nanette. But for sublime perfection it would be difficult to beat her duet with bassist Simon Thorpe on her rendition of "Sentimental journey".

With immaculate phrasing and delivery, together with a personality to match her enormous talent, the afternoon was a joy to savour.

In addition to Simon Thorpe on bass Liz was supported by Matt Home on drums and Tim Lapthorn on piano.
