On Sunday afternoon the members of Newport Jazz Club were treated to an afternoon of hard driven bop the Dave Jones Quartet. To quote one audience member "It's only half time and I'm exhausted just listening!".

Drawing mainly from his 2017 cd release "Key Notes" Dave led from the front with a set of mainly one word titles including Blues, Afro, Funky and Latin giving the audience a clear idea of what to expect with each number. There were nods also to Wayne Shorter as well as an interesting arrangement of Duke Ellington's "In a Sentimental Mood".

Supported by Ben Waghorn (flute and tenor sax), Ashley John Long (bass) and Andy Hague (drums), all of whom have impressive solo pedigrees having individually played with the cream of British jazz, Dave displayed his impressive piano skills whilst giving plenty of room to the rest of the band to enthrall the audience with a showcase of the very best in British jazz today.
