Aydenne Simone with the Cass Caswell Quartet

21st May 2017

Sunday saw the musical pairing of two island favourites when vocalist Aydenne Simone took Newport Jazz Club through the Sarah Vaughan songbook supported by the Cass Caswell Quartet.

The gift of a Sarah Vaughan LP in 1967 from her late father, to whom the concert was dedicated, gave Aydenne Simone a lifelong love of the music of one of the leading ladies in Jazz.

Opening with "All of me" Aydenne showed from the start that she has great interpretation of the numbers Sarah Vaughan originally made famous and every number was filled with both energy and emotion. Every number was outstanding and it is difficult to pick out individual highlights but personal favourites in the 19 number set were Aydenne's covers of "Misty", "Black coffee" and "My Funny Valentine"

With Cass leading the Quartet on upright bass he was supported by Rod Kelly on piano, Eddie John on drums and Jeremy Huggett on saxes.

If you missed Aydenne on Sunday she will be on the island later in the year. Watch the press for details.

The next concert will be on 18th June when the club opens its doors to the next generation with a special concert showcasing young local talent. On stage will be trad jazz trio Juke Box Jazz followed by young sax player Oli Morris. Tickets, at the special price of £5.00 are available from 730601 or from Bill Wills on 523879
